ability to weave words together doesn t just bring you a good story, but actually pulls you into the story We are introduced to Aubrey Bree Mathinson who is a young woman that has had a rough couple of years After losing her father 8 years ago she left Alaska to go to medical school After completing school she returns to home to practice medicine She has been overwhelmed with survivor s guilt since the death of her fianc 6 years ago and then losing her mother has left her very vulnerable She has thrown herself into keeping busy by flying to the outlying villages for a month at time to provide medical care If not for her dad s childhood friend and her adopted uncle, Jeremiah, her life would be very lonely, but even with Jeremiah she still feels empty inside The story takes place as Jeremiah flies out to pick her up from an outlying village, but on the return flight the plane crashes leaving Bree to battle the elements in order to stay alive After retiring from the Air Force David Stone is approached by a friend to come to Alaska and help with the Northern Frontier Search and Rescue David lost his wife while serving a tour of duty in the middle east and if that s not enough, he also suffers from PTSD His dreams are haunted by the faces of the men who died while under his command, especially Lt Adams So keeping busy was his ultimate goal Putting his flying skills to good use rescuing people was a sure way to keep both mind and body occupied When the call came about a plane down and that is was Jeremiah s, David knew time was running out for his friend with the approaching weather system.Arriving at the crash site and finding Bree alive was a stroke of luck, but suddenly their luck was about to run out Was Jeremiah s crash only an accident or had it been orchestrated by an unknown assailant David s protective instincts kick in and Bree knows he will keep her safe physically, but is afraid her heart won t be As David witnesses Bree s deep faith and trust in God he begins to wonder how he lost his, but is determined to find it I do believe this is one of my favorite books by Margaret Daley I would recommend it to anyone who like an inspirational highly recommend this faith filled book I really enjoy this book and many others by this author I want to thank the author Margaret Daley and publisher Love Inspired Suspense for bringing good clean Christian books like this one to readers like me I was provided with this book in exchange for my honest review I could not put this book down Excellent The action grabs you from page one and doesn t force, as the author does throughout It would be the Air Force I had two combat tours in the B 52, and the male protagonist is a retired B 52 pilot He would have called his people who flew with him his crew, not his team Finally, though one situation written is technically possible, the author gives the aircrew including the pilot fardirect combat experience than most aircrews had My experience in the Viet Nam War in the B 52 surprised me as, unless we got shot at by a missile or anti aircraft guns, it was really dull this cannot be said about my second tour in the AC 130 We would fly in at 40 50,000 feet, get handed to a ground radar group who would tell us where to go and when to drop the bombs, then fly away We most often could not even see the ground, as it was at night or there were clouds The standard idea of the B 52 flying over someplace as Hanoi, with surface to air missiles flying everywhere, and airplanes being shot down did happen, but was rare and not for prolonged periods No B 52s were shot down in Iraq or Afghanistan I do realize this is novel, and it could have happened MISTLETOE AND MURDER When Dr Bree Mathison s plane plummets into the Alaskan wilderness at was there from the start till the end and I didn t know who the ring leader was until it was revealed. For some reason I didn t connect that much with the characters I found a lot of Bree s concerns feelings was repeated a bit too much which came across for me as whiny I however did love that she kept holding unto her faith and that she didn t think twice when praying, even though David was not world.Overall an enjoyable suspense which will keep you guessing till the end Did I read the same book as most other people Aubrey Bree Mathison is a doctor stationed out of Anchorage Alaska who often goes to remote villages in one month stints Her family friend, Jeremiah, flies her in and out of these remote locations This is what is happening when we first meet Bree, only Jeremiah has a heart site, manages to find a place to land and locates Bree When trying to get her out, they stumble across a team of men, looking over the crash site Forced to abandon Jeremiah s body, they flee and return to Anchorage, only to find Jeremiah s house has been trashed Someone was obviously looking for something.Due to the storm David helps Bree secure the house, capture Jeremiah s deaf cat and get home next door safely David s protective instincts surge, rise, etc numerous times during this book Numerous So his protective instincts kick in and he decides to keep a close eye on Bree, because Jeremiah was obviously into something Everyone but Bree chalks it up to drugs David, cops, David s retired cop dad It must have been drugs It s not drugs I know Jeremiah He wouldn t to do that That s totally me summing up about three orconversations that take place in this book Only Bree begins to question the man she knew after she finds a few empty bottles of alcohol in the house oh no the man casually drank.Next Bree finds the medical bag she lost in the crash on her desk She rightly takes it as a warning, not as the wrong doers kindly returning it to her Then her house gets trashed Then her friend gets kidnapped when she borrows Bree s vehicle Then she realizes Jeremiah was better off then she thought Then there s a cabin Then then then.things just conveniently pop in and out Most of it off screen You just hear about the after math.I don t know I have been binge reading a lot of Love Inspired Suspense and this one just doesn t make the grade in when all of them are stacked together Stupid mistakes are made Ex boyfriend issues conveniently just drop in from the sky having never been mentioned before until the point it was needed to create a little relationship tension Come on A lot of things are there mentioned placed etc for the convenience of the writer It s not an awful book, but it s definitely not the best it could have been Things are far too convenient Another example, family reunion resolution after all those years of tension, convenient. Is it really hard to get into a book when you can t believe the flow of things When tragic back story is there and only mentioned when it is needed to create tension When the people know they are in danger but do stupid things anyway Oh, they re looking for something and have been to three locations that they know of looking for something, let s lead them to a fourth Genius.I digress In summary, this book missed the mark When I started I thought it had all the markings of a good read But theI read thethe author unfortunately used stupidity, sudden background story dumps, etc to move the plot along I couldn t find the whole thing believable A good book has to be believable, no matter how unbelievable the contents The author has to set that up Unfortunately it was not the case for this one and it s a shame because it had so much promise So instead of being able to mark it as something I REALLY liked, I m marking it as something that is just okay The premise will stay with me, but the actual execution I would prefer to leave behind When it comes to search and rescue operations, nothing is as daunting as the landscape in Alaska I know My cousin has flown medical missions into remote areas of Alaska for years That s one of the reasons I chose Margaret Daley s The Yuletide Rescue to read
